The Community College of Rhode Island Arts
and Humanities Series Presents Helena Stockar's The Epos of Life
October 4-23, 2004 at the Art Gallery on Flanagan Campus.
Working for more than fifty years as an artist, Helena
Stockar in the last two years has composed a series of oils on canvas
that summarize her life experiences. Each piece addresses in a special
way her understanding of the basic forces which formed and form her
life as well as that of others. With her vivid colors, experienced brush
stroke and mature compositions, Mrs. Stockar deals with many themes,
among them home, war, aging, motherhood, achievement. In this ongoing
project, she will include these as well as other themes "as long
as [her] inspiration permits." Additional programs, Our Universe,
What Next? and The World We Did Not Know About are
also being developed.
This exhibit is the first to bring the Epos of Life
to the general public. The individual canvases are not for sale. However,
the prospective collector may purchase copies that are in a low numbered
series and signed.
Helena Stockar, a prominent member of the Rhode Island
arts community since the fifties, attended the School of Design in Prague
and received a degree in graphic design. She lives in Shannock, has
exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, her works being
found in many major collections here and abroad.
